The Kerala government is committed to the sustainable development of the State’s coastal areas spanning around 590 km in nine districts, Minister for Industries P. Rajeeve has said.

The Minister was inaugurating a two-day workshop on ‘Resilient coasts, thriving communities: A sea of solutions, ’organised by the State government in association with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), in Kochi on Monday (August 18, 2025).

“Around 30% of the State’s population lives in the coastal regions. The government is implementing special projects for the progress and safety of the coastal people. Projects, including construction of tetrapod seawall, are being carried out to resist sea incursion and other issues caused by climate change,” the Minister said.

Resource conservation

Conservation of marine resources, marine pollution, development and protection of green ports are among the topics covered in the workshop aimed at discussing protection of the coastal areas and the welfare of the coastal population.

Atul Jain, chairman, Central Water Commission; K. Jeevan Babu, Special Secretary, Water Resources department; and Mio Oka, India country director, ADB, were among those who attended the event on the first day. The workshop concludes on Tuesday (August 19, 2025).
