Dakshina Kannada police have filed total six separate cases, in Belthangady and Venur police stations, over alleged inflammatory and derogatory social media posts.
Ajith Nagappa Basapur, a resident of Chabbi in Hubballi, filed a complaint with Belthangady police against activist Girish Mattanavar stating that he made deregatory remaks against Jains during his interview to Kudla Rampage, a YouTube channel. The police registered a case in this connection against Mattannavar and Kudla Rampage channel owner Ajay Achan for offences under sections 196 (1) and 299 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)
Another case was registered by Belthangady police against Bengaluru lawyer Jagadish for his alleged inflammatory Facebook post. This compliant was registered under sections 189 (6) and 191 (3) of BNS.
The third case was registered by Belthangady police against a post on Facebook page of Lokesh Poojary for writing in a derogatory manner against revered folk heroes Koti and Chennayya of Tulu Nadu. The fourth case was registered against Facebook post of Naveen Jain for threatening to attack those who are speaking against Dharmasthala.
The Venur police registered a case under section 296 of BNS against the post on āVikas Vikki Hinduā Facebook page wherein derogatory references have been made in reference to the case of Soujanya, who was raped and murdered near Dharmasthala in 2013.
The Venur police also registered a case for an inflammatory post found on āEnri Gowdreā Facebook page.
