Manipal police arrest three alleged drug peddlers and four consumers

The Manipal police have arrested seven persons, including three alleged peddlers of cannabis and LSD narcotic drugs, following raids between August 16 and 18.

The police raided a room in Ishwara Nagar on August 16 and arrested Afshin, 26, from Varkala, Kerala; Shivanidhi Acharya, 20, from Indrali in Udupi. The police seized 1.237 kg of cannabis, 0.038 g of LSD strips, ₹2,000 in cash, packaging material, a digital weighing machine, and two mobile phones.

The police said Afshin, a former Ayurvedic college student in Manipal, sold drugs to engineering students and labourers. Shivanidhi, an engineering student from a Mangaluru college, was supplying drugs to students and local people.

On Sunday, police raided a residential apartment in Vidyaratna Nagar in Manipal and arrested Manish, 34, a native of Kasaragod district in Kerala. The police seized 653 grams of cannabis, two digital weighing machines, a crusher, ₹ 3,000, and a mobile phone.

Manish, a welder by profession, supplied cannabis to migrant labourers in Manipal. He was produced before the jurisdictional court, which remanded him to judicial custody.

The police, on Monday, arrested Ajish, 28, Vipin, 32, Bipin, 24, and Akhil, 26, all labourers hailing from Kerala, after they tested positive for consumption of cannabis. These four had purchased cannabis from Manish, the police said.
