The Puducherry government has augmented treatment facilities at the Hospital for Chest Diseases, Gorimedu, by providing with a new digital X-ray machine and four hand held X-ray equipment at a cost of around ₹1. 40 crore.
Chief Minister N. Rangasamy inaugurated the facilities in the presence of Government whip A.K.D Aroumougane, Health Secretary Jayanta Kumar Ray and Director of Health and Family Welfare S. Sevvel, an official release said.
The Union Territory has made strides in combating tuberculosis (TB), the release said, adding that the region has at present 98 cases per 100,000 population. Whereas, the current incident of TB cases in the country was 95 cases per 100,000 population.
“The cases in UT have shown a declining trend. Eight villages in Puducherry are TB free in the region. The new machines will help in providing speedy treatment and for door to door screening of vulnerable people. The government was working towards making the region TB free by 2025,” it said.
