Kerala politics was shaken on Thursday (August 21, 2025) by accusations of sexual misconduct against an as-yet-unnamed leader.

So far, the woman, who on Wednesday (August 20, 2025) accused the politician of electronically stalking her and bombarding her with unsolicited, salacious WhatsApp messages, has yet to identify the individual.

Notably, she has not filed a police complaint and has refrained from clearly identifying the politician or his organisation, despite persistent questions from journalists.

Nevertheless, in back-to-back interactions with the media, the person, a television presenter-turned-actor, appeared to drop strong hints about the suspect’s identity.

For one, when repeatedly queried about the person’s identity, the actor cited what she claimed was the leader’s favourite political riposte, which had gone viral on social and conventional media recently.

The actor also claimed that the “leader” had similarly targeted other women, including those from Kerala’s political sphere.

She has found some support on social media, with a few women, including a writer, endorsing her accusations. She has threatened to seek legal recourse if the person’s party did not take the politician to task for the latter’s alleged trespasses.

National leadership assessing issue

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) disciplinary committee chairperson Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said the national leadership was assessing the issue.

“It’s more a question of law than an issue concerning party discipline. Conformity to accepted standards of behaviour and morals is the cornerstone of public life. Propriety is the watchword in politics”, he said.

Kerala’s Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan told reporters in Thiruvananthapuram that he would soon address the media.

Former Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president K. Sudhakaran and United Democratic Front (UDF) convener Adoor Prakash said the party’s national leadership was assessing the controversy and would respond at an appropriate time.
