The Central Crime Branch has arrested a 37-year-old woman for allegedly cheating parents of many medical aspirants after receiving lakhs of money from them under the pretext of getting medical seats.

R. Rosemary, 45, of Kanniyakumari district was trying to get a medical seat for her daughter in 2022. Through known contacts, two persons -Anthony Doss and Ramya – were introduced to her. The duo claimed that they were highly influential among the officials of the health department and promised to get a medical seat on payment. Ramya called Rosemary and her family to come to the Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services (DMS) campus, Teynampet and introduced Anthony Doss as a doctor to them. She collected ₹60 lakh from them through online bank transfers and cash between February 8 and May 19, 2022.

Again she collected ₹1.38 lakh from the family after showing a fake admission order but she continued to fail to get the admission as promised. When the family demanded her to return the money, she repaid ₹29.5 lakh. However she delayed returning the rest of the payment. Hence, Rosemary filed a complaint with the Central Crime Branch (CCB).

After a long search, police arrested the accused M. Ramya, 37 in Sholinganallur. She was remanded to judicial custody. Police said she has been facing several criminal cases with the CCB for allegedly cheating parents of many medical aspirants.
