Maharashtra will not host any game in the Pro Kabaddi League’s 12th edition but with the State being a kabaddi heartland and two of the fiercest rivals in the league hailing from the State, the PKL fever has caught up in Maharashtra.

Sunil Kumar — the most successful PKL captain who will lead U Mumba — and Aslam Inamdar, who has recovered from an injury that cut short his Puneri Paltan sojourn in the previous season, are looking forward to the Maharashtra Derby on September 18.

“Being born and raised in Maharashtra, representing Puneri Paltan and bringing glory to the team and the state has been one of my proudest achievements. Returning from injury this season, I am determined to make an even bigger impact,” Inamdar, the only captain from Maharashtra to have lifted the trophy in PKL, said here on Thursday at a promotional event.

Sunil, the stalwart, hoped that he could live up to the legacy and reputation of Maharashtra kabaddi and the U Mumba franchise.

“Maharashtra has always been a powerhouse of Kabaddi. Leading U Mumba, a team with such a strong legacy, is an honour. Our hard work in preparation is aimed at nothing less than bringing the trophy back to Mumbai,” he said.

PKL 12 begins in Visakhapatnam on August 29, with Telugu Titans and Tamil Thalaivas facing each other.
