Minister for Cooperation and Devaswoms V.N. Vasavan on Thursday swept aside the allegation that the State government machinery was being misused for the Global Ayyappa Sangamam proposed at Pampa in September.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Vasavan said that the event, planned on September 20, was being conducted by the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) in connection with its 75th anniversary celebrations. The State government was assisting the TDB in organising it, he said.

“There is no misuse of government machinery. Neither the government money nor the funds of the TDB is being used for organising the event. We are planning to raise the funds through sponsorships,” Mr. Vasavan said.

3,000 delegates

The event, which will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, will be attended by 3,000 delegates, according to the Minister. A major focus of the event will be the masterplan for the development of the pilgrim centre. The government hopes to gain feedback on the masterplan from the participants, he said.

In conducting the event, the organisers will ensure the cooperation of all stakeholders, including the Opposition United Democratic Front, spiritual organisations, Malayali associations in different parts of the country and abroad, Lok Kerala Sabha members and Ayyappa Seva Sanghams, Mr. Vasavan said.

The government is also inviting Ministers from neighbouring States.

He launched the logo of the event on Thursday. TDB president P.S. Prasanth also was present.
