Five Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel will provide round-the-clock proximate security cover to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who was allegedly assaulted on August 20 by a Gujarat resident during a public hearing at her camp office in Civil Lines, north Delhi.
Moreover, at least six CRPF personnel, two each in an eight-hour shift, will be deployed at her residence, a government official said.
At the time of the attack, Delhi Police was providing Z-plus security to Ms. Gupta.
After the incident, the Union Home Ministry decided to accord Z category security to Ms. Gupta with the CRPF forming the close protection team. A Z category security entails 22-24 personnel.
Three additional vehicles will also be added to her convoy, the official said.
The paramilitary force that provides security cover to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will be the primary force providing security to Ms. Gupta, though formal orders are awaited.
The official said that the CRPF has taken over security, and presently, only male personnel have been deployed. The CRPF will also supervise the access control, officials said.
“The formal orders are awaited. The details of security cover in other parts of the country when she travels will only be known then,” said the official.
The Delhi Police had apprehended Rajesh Bhai Kimji Bhai Sakariya, 41, a resident of Rajkot, Gujarat, for attacking Ms. Gupta. He was charged under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those pertaining to attempt to murder.
