Mild tension prevailed in Habsiguda in eastern Hyderabad on Friday (August 22, 2025) after a group staged a protest linked to the “Marwari go back” bandh call. Police said the accused, identified as Paparao and B. Ramesh, set fire to a tyre and raised slogans outside Navkar Gold shop along with Rajendra. Despite being cautioned a day earlier against staging any protest, the trio went ahead with their plan.
The Osmania University police registered three cases in connection with the incident. Paparao and Ramesh were taken into preventive custody, while criminal cases were booked against all three. Police added that another man, Shiva, had extended support to the group but was not directly involved in the tyre burning.
Separately, Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police registered a case against a social media account that had circulated the slogan “Marwari Go Back” and allegedly sought to create enmity between communities. The suo moto case was based on a complaint filed by a constable who came across the slogan online and noticed that several handles had also given a bandh call for August 22.
“One cyber crime case has been booked. Investigation is underway to identify the individuals involved in spreading hatred online,” said an officer from the Cyber Crimes Police.
Police said the case was registered under Sections 196 and 49 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A few business establishments downed shutters in some localities on Friday (August 22, 2025) for a brief period in response to the bandh call.
