Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Saturday said he will make efforts for the release of ₹3 crore for improvement of sports infrastructure in Udupi district, as assured by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Inaugurating the three-day Karnataka State Junior and under-23 Athletics event in the Mahatma Gandhi district stadium at Ajjarkad in Udupi, Mr. Parameshwara said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, during the inauguration of Federation Cup Athletics Championship in Mangaluru recently, had assured release of ₹5 crore and ₹3 crore for improvement of sports infrastructure in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts respectively.
Proposal for the use of ₹3 crore has already been submitted to the government. He will make efforts for the release of the amount, the Minister said. The organisers of the athletic event have sought release of ₹30 lakh for the present event. He will ask the government to release it shortly, Mr. Parameshwara said.
The event was organised by Udupi District Amateur Athletic Association. MAHE Deemed to be University Pro Chancellor H.S. Ballal, MLA for Udupi Yashpal Suvarna, K. Raghupati Bhat and Vinay Kumar Sorake, former MLAs, Udupi Deputy Commissioner T.K. Swaroopa, Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar, and Udupi Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Prateek Bayal participated in the inaugural programme.
