The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has decided to organise a protest on September 2, 2025, against the implementation of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) syllabus in government schools in Puducherry.

The party’s Puducherry unit secretary S. Ramachandran, in a statement, said during the State Committee meeting held recently, it was decided to hold propaganda meetings in Puducherry against the implementation of the CBSE syllabus in government schools on August 29. A memorandum would be submitted to the Education Minister, highlighting the issues faced by students and thereafter, a protest will be staged in front of the Education Department on September 2, he said.

He said students are finding it difficult to get admission to higher education courses as they are not able to score higher marks in Class 12. After the CBSE syllabus was brought in, its difficulty level has prompted many government school students to drop out. The government schools should be allowed to give an option to students to choose between CBSE and State board syllabi, like some of the private schools in Puducherry, he said.
