Well-known builder and philanthropist Ghiasuddin Babukhan passed away in a hospital on Monday (August 25, 2025) after a brief illness, according to family sources. He was 83. He is survived by wife, three sons and a daughter.Â
Some of the landmarks in Hyderabad were built by his construction firm Babukhan Properties including the towering Babukhan Estate and Deccan Towers.
It was his father Khan Bahadur Abdul Karim Babukhan who built the construction empire with architectural gems like the Osmania University’s Arts College, Hyderabad House in New Delhi, Kadam Dam in Nirmal (part of erstwhile Adilabad).
Ghiasuddin Babukhan carried forward the legacy with big slice of philanthropy when he founded the Hyderabad Zakat and Charitable Trust (HZCT) in 1992-93, marking the beginning of a focused effort to establish structured systems of charitable giving.Â
Education has been the Trust’s focus. One of the most far-reaching initiatives is the annual scholarship programme for orphans. For over a decade, more than 10,000 orphaned students across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have received educational support through this programme.
