The Greater Chennai Corporation has launched a WhatsApp-based service to provide civic services to the public. Mayor R. Priya inaugurated the service on Monday at the Ripon Building.
According to a press release, all civic services have been made available through WhatsApp and developed with artificial intelligence features and expert consultation to ensure ease of use in both Tamil and English.
The citizens must first save the number 9445061913 and send a message ‘Hi’ or ‘Vanakkam’ to access a total of 32 services, including birth and death certificates, property tax payment, grievance redressal, trade licence renewal, document download, community hall booking, swimming pool booking, pet licence registration, shop rent payment and construction waste registration. The services would be available through the chatbot.
Additional features, include information on ward and zonal offices, schools, bus stops, Amma canteens, toilets, cremation grounds, health centres, form downloads and FAQs, and entertainment tax and health certificate services were newly included, the release mentioned.
It added that QR codes for property tax assessment, name transfer, trade licence renewals and professional tax notices were released and would be placed in zonal and ward offices, CMWSSB and TANGEDCO offices, e-sevai centres and corporation-owned commercial complexes.
 As of now, only three of the overall services are available in this ₹4.45 crore-a-year project.
