A fresh case has been registered against popular Malayalam rapper Hirandas Murali aka Vedan, who has already sought anticipatory bail after being charged with sexually assaulting a woman doctor on the promise of marriage.
The Ernakulam Central police have registered the latest first information report against Vedan, slapping him with Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) which deals with the offence of using assault or criminal force against a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty, a senior police officer confirmed on Monday.
The case was registered on August 21 on a complaint filed by a woman who is a music researcher, police sources said. In the complaint, she alleged that Vedan had tried to sexually abuse her at a flat in Kochi in December 2020. The complaint was lodged with the Chief Minister and the State Police Chief and in turn forwarded to the police station concerned. The statement of the woman was yet to be recorded, the sources added.
Details of the fresh case emerged even as the Kerala High Court posted the hearing on Vedan’s anticipatory bail plea to Wednesday. The rapper moved the High Court seeking pre-arrest bail after the Thrikkakara police booked him for alleged sexual assault.
