The murder charge slapped on a migrant couple by the Perumbavoor police over the death of their newborn baby is likely to be dropped as the post-mortem examination has revealed that the baby was stillborn, according to police sources.

The couple in their thirties from Murshidabad in West Bengal were booked on charge of murder on Monday after the infant’s body was found at a waste disposal site at Kanjirakkad near Perumbavoor.

Sources in the Perumbavoor police said it could not be considered a murder case, with the autopsy revealing that the baby did not take a single breath after delivery. The arrest of the couple was recorded, and they were later released on bail.
