The Tiruchi City Police have put in place elaborate security arrangements for the Vinayaka Chathurthi idols processions here on Friday for immersion in the Cauvery river. Idols of Lord Vinayaka of various sizes were installed at several public places in the city in connection with the Vinayaka Chathurathi festival that was held on Wednesday. The idols would all be taken out in procession from the respective public places and immersed in the Cauvery river on Friday.
Around 1,500 police personnel have been mobilised by the Tiruchi City Police exclusively for the idols procession and their immersion in the Cauvery. Additional bandobust arrangements would be provided at important junctions and places identified as problematic in order to prevent any untoward incidents. Barricades have been erected to a certain distance along the Cauvery bridge in connection with the procession and immersion of idols.
Traffic diversion
The City Police have announced the following traffic diversions, in connection with the idols procession, which will come into effect from 4 p.m. on Friday and would be in force till 6 a.m. on Saturday:
  Moffusil buses bound for Tiruchi from Thuraiyur, Ariyalur, Perambalur and Cuddalore routes will come via Kollidam tollgate, Kollidam bridge, Tiruvanaikoil trunk road and Mambazha salai junction where it will drop passengers. It will take passengers and proceed via Amma Mandapam road, Srirangam old bus stand and Gandhi road, Tiruvanaikoil junction, Tiruvanaikoil trunk road , checkpost 6 and go via new Kollidam bridge.Â
Buses coming from Lalgudi, Samayapuram, Vathalai and Manachanallur to Tiruchi will come via Kollidam tollgate, Kollidam bridge, Tiruvanaikoil trunk road and halt at Mambazha Salai junction where it will drop and take passengers. It will leave via Amma Mandapam road, Srirangam old bus stand, Gandhi road, Tiruvanaikoil junction, check post 6 and new Kollidam bridge.
City buses from Chathram bus stand to Srirangam will go via Karur by pass road, K.T. Junction, Sastri road, Anna Nagar Uzhavar Sandhai, Court junction Head Post Office junction, TVS Tolgate, Palpannai, Chennai by pass road, Sanjeevi Nagar junction, Kumbakonathan road, Tiruvanaikoil road overbridge, Mambazha Salai, Amma Mandapam to reach Srirangam old bus stand. In the return direction, the buses would go via Gandhi road, Tiruvanaikoil junction, Chennai by pass road and proceed in the same direction.Â
Tiruverumbur and Thuvakudi-bound buses from Chathram bus stand will go via Karur by pass road, K.T. Junction, Sastri Road, Anna Nagar Uzhavar sandhai, Court junction, Head Post Office junction, TVS Tollgate and Palpannai and return back in the same direction.
Freight and heavy vehicles bound for Thanjavur and Pudukottai from Coimbatore and Karur routes will be diverted at Kulithalai Cauvery bridge and proceed via Musiri, Kollidam tollgate, Chennai by pass road. Vehicles proceeding to Thanjavur will turn at Palpannai, while those proceeding to Pudukottai will go via TVS Tollgate.
Freight and heavy vehicles from Thanjavur and Pudukottai routes and proceeding to Karur will go via Palpannai, Chennai by pass road, Cauvery bridge, Kollidam tollgate, Musiri and Kulithalai to reach Karur, a police press release said.Â
