Thousands of farmers across Kalaburagi district, under the leadership of legislators B.R. Patil, M.Y. Patil and Allamprabhu Patil, urged the government of Karnataka to immediately release last year’s crop insurance claims.

B.R. Patil demanded that the State Government immediately release crop insurance of ₹341 crore that was due to farmers suffering crop losses during the 2024-25 kharif season. He also demanded the State and Central governments conduct crop surveys to assess the crop loss due to rain and extend relief. Mr. Patil claimed that more than 50% of green gram, black gram, sesame, soya and cotton crops were destroyed due to rain this season.

They urged the government to immediately conduct a thorough survey and provide compensation under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF). The legislator also advised farmers to use official government portals and helplines to enrol directly for crop insurance to combat the middlemen menace.

Earlier, the farmers led by Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha marched from Kannada Bhavan to the office of the Deputy Commissioners. The legislators heard the grievances of farmers and addressed them in the meeting hall of the office of the Deputy Commissioner. They expressed solidarity with the farmers’ demands and urged the State Government to release crop insurance at the earliest and also to exert pressure on Centre for conducting a crop loss survey.
