Dharmasthala case: Belthangady police question advocate Jagadish

The Belthangady police on Friday questioned advocate Jagadish in connection with a complaint that accused him of posting inflammatory content related to alleged Dharmasthala mass burial case on social media and inciting people to riot.

On August 13, the police registered the compliant of Belthangady resident Prabhakar Gowda accusing Mr. Jagadish of Bengaluru of posting a video in connection with the excavation of ‘burial sites’ identified by complainant, on his Facebook page, and inciting people to go on riot.

The police registered a case under Sections 189 (6) and 191 (3) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Mr. Jagadish came to the Belthangady police station with a police constable and a team of three advocates on Friday morning. The questioning went on till evening. The police questioned counsel of YouTuber M.D. Sameer, who is accused of creating and circulating a fictitious video related to mass burial case and hurting religious sentiments.

The police also questioned activist Mahesh Shetty Thimarody in connection with a case registered against him by the Brahmavar police accusing him of obstructing the police when he was arrested from his house on August 21. The arrest was related to Mr. Thimarody’s alleged derogatory comment on BJP national secretary B.L. Santosh.

The SIT probing the alleged mass burial of bodies in Dharmasthala village continued questioning elderly Sujatha Bhat over her petition to the police to hand over skeletal remains of what she has claimed as her daughter Ananya Bhat.

Mr. Thimarody and fellow activist Girish Mattannavar visited the SIT office and produced some documents related to the alleged burial of bodies, including those of Dharmastala Gram Panchayat, on Friday.
