Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Friday assured that a prominent location in Bengaluru will soon be named after former Chief Minister Ramakrishna Hegde, in recognition of his contributions to the city and the state.

Speaking at the 99th birth anniversary celebrations of Ramakrishna Hegde at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, Mr. Shivakumar said, “Ramakrishna Hegde’s name must remain forever. After discussions, one day, a prominent place in Bengaluru will be named after him. I am committed to this.”

Recalling his memories from the Assembly, the Deputy Chief Minister described Ramakrishna Hegde as an outstanding parliamentarian. “His speech during the debate on telephone tapping was one of the finest I have ever witnessed,” he said.

Highlighting Ramakrishna Hegde’s role in shaping modern Bengaluru, Mr. Shivakumar said the city’s growth into a global hub for technology and industry was partly due to the former CM’s decision to permit engineering colleges during his tenure. “It enabled Bengaluru to achieve success in industry and technology. It was also during Ramakrishna Hegde’s time as Finance Minister that Cauvery water was brought to Bengaluru. Now we are working on the sixth stage of the project,” he added.
