Desilting work by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is under way at the Vyasarpadi canal in Sasthri Nagar and the Virugambakkam canal, according to a press release issued on Saturday (August 30, 2025).
The 1,350-metre-long Vyasarpadi canal in Ward 45 under Tondiarpet Zone (IV) is being desilted and its side walls will be soon raised to a height of two metres to ensure the smooth flow of rainwater during the upcoming monsoon.
The release added that in Kodambakkam Zone (X), under Ward 129, the one-km-long Virugambakkam canal was being desilted using a floating machine and the work would be completed soon.
