Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Saturday that the Delhi government will redraw the boundaries of all 11 revenue districts to align them with zones of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for better governance.
“As part of this effort, all 11 revenue districts will be reorganised in accordance with the 12 municipal zones. This will maintain coordination, eliminate jurisdictional disputes, and ensure timely resolution of grievances,” she said in a statement.
Ms. Gupta said the government is taking strong measures to address the concerns of citizens and provide timely access to welfare schemes.
However, there was no clarification from the Chief Minister’s Office on whether the number of revenue districts would be increased from 11 to 12 to match the MCD zones, and when the reorganisation can be expected.
Earlier in the day, while inaugurating the newly constructed District Development Committee chairpersons’ office in Alipur, north Delhi, the Chief Minister said, “Our vision is to bring good governance in Delhi and set up mini Secretariats in each of the 11 districts so that people can go there without hesitation and get their problems addressed.”
Ms. Gupta said her government has taken several steps to strengthen the District Magistrate offices by providing staff and financial resources.
She also called for mass participation in the ‘Delhi Ko Kude Se Azadi (Free Delhi from garbage)’ campaign in the city.
