Vinayaka Chathurthi celebrations for the year concluded across Coimbatore district on Sunday (August 31, 2025) with the culmination of ceremonial processions carrying Lord Vinayaka idols to waterbodies for immersion.
In Coimbatore city, processions accompanied by vehicles carrying large-size idols from different parts culminated at Muthannankulam on Thadagam Road, also known as Kumaraswamy lake, where they were immersed.
Processions passed through busy roads in the city leading to the waterbody where the district administration, the police and the local body made extensive arrangements for immersion of idols, which continued till late night. Though traffic diversions had been announced in view of the processions, traffic blocks were reported on different roads.
The city police said that 262 large-size idols, which had been installed in public places, were immersed.
In Coimbatore rural, Vinayaka idols were immersed with ceremonial processions at Valparai. The police said that immersions were completed in other parts of the district on Friday (August 29, 2025) and Saturday (August 30, 2025). A total of 61 large-size idols were immersed in Nadumalai river before Sunday evening.
The police said that processions and immersions completed peacefully across the district.
