As there are many forces working to divide the country, it is important for people to go through heroic struggles of freedom fighters to understand the value of freedom and respect it, said Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao in Mangaluru on Sunday.

Speaking at a function organised to release three books on Subash Chandra Bose that were translated from English to Kannada by K.E. Radhakrishna, Mr. Rao said the life of Bose was truly inspirational to youth. At a young age he joined Imperial Civil Service of the British and then quit to devote himself to freedom struggle, Mr. Rao said.

Bose was a greatest patriot of the country, who dedicated his life to fighting for its freedom. Youth should read and understand history, he said.

Mr. Radhakrishna and writer Sumantra Bose, grandson of Subash Chandra Bose’s brother Sharath Chandra Bose, also spoke. Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor P.L. Dharma attended the function.
