More than three lakh acre agricultural land has been registered for crop damage claims by farmer across 1,003 villages in Haryana over the past week, according to the latest data available on the e-Kshatipurti portal. Around a dozen districts in Haryana are facing a flood situation amid continuous rise in water levels of the State’s four major rivers — Yamuna, Markanda, Tangri, and Ghaggar.
The portal will remain open for 1,402 villages across 12 districts till September 10 after the Chief Minister Nayab Saini extended the August 31 deadline. Initially, it was opened for 188 villages in seven districts on August 21.
As many as 46,886 farmers have registered on the portal. As per the portal, the highest number of 11,389 farmers in Bhiwani have registered, followed by Hisar (9,939) and Rohtak (6,696). In terms of the number of villages affected by the flood, Jhajjar remains worst hit with 244 villages, followed by Yamunanagar (204) and Kurukshetra (94).
Among the districts hit by flood, Faridabad remained on the edge with 2,38,000 cusecs of water released in Yamuna from the Hathnikund Barrage on Monday morning, which is expected to hit neighbouring Delhi on September 3. Faridabad Deputy Commissioner Vikram Singh said danger of flood loomed large over 14 villages in the districts, including Basantpur, Kidawali, Lalpur, Mahawatpur, Rajpur Kalan, Tilori Khadar and Manjhawli.
The district administration has appealed to the people living in low-lying areas to leave their homes and move to designated safe places. The administration has advised people to carry essential items, medicines and important documents with them and also make arrangements for their animals.
The Gurugram district administration too issued an advisory to the private institutes and corporate offices to guide their employees to work from home and the schools to hold online classes on Tuesday. Gurugram received over 100 mm rain in four hours till 7 p.m. on Monday bringing the city on its knees.
Coinciding with the evening rush, the rain led to long traffic snarls on the National Highway-48, the service lanes and the major arterial roads of the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rain on Tuesday.
In view of the warning, the State government has directed all field officers to remain at their headquarters and maintain strict vigilance till September 5. Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, in a letter to Divisional Commissioners, Range Inspector Generals of Police, Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police, and Sub-Divisional Magistrates, said that during this period, no officer would be granted leave without the approval of the CS or the Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department.
The districts impacted due to flood include Fatehabad, Sirsa, Ambala and Yamunanagar among others.
