The Jawaharlal Nehru Teachers’ Association (JNUTA) held a protest on Monday against the dismissal of an assistant professor on probation. The teachers termed the dismissal illegal and wrote to Vice-Chancellor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit and President Draupadi Murmu, who is a Visitor at the university, condemning the move.

The administration had, on August 27, a day after a meeting of the Executive Council, issued an order sacking Rohan Choudhari. As per the order, he took 51 days of unauthorised leave between May and July 2024. However, the teachers’ association claimed that Mr. Choudhari had taken leave to attend to a “family emergency”. He was appointed to the Centre for Political Studies, School of Social Sciences in April 2024. JNUTA has issued several statements since the academic’s sacking.
