Over 80 residents of Ayyalur and the areas near the Slender Loris Sanctuary in Dindigul district on Monday staged a demonstration in front of the Dindigul Collectorate urging the authorities not to disturb their farming and grazing activities.
The residents said they belonged to areas near the Slender Loris Sanctuary. They welcomed a dedicated sanctuary to protect Slender Loris, they said. However, they were facing certain restrictions as the place is a protected area.
They said the authorities were not permitting them to continue farming activities and also graze livestock. The pathway was either blocked or dug up, the residents said, and urged the authorities concerned to allow them to continue farming and grazing in their land. Otherwise, their livelihood would be affected, they said.
