A 61-year-old man was found dead at Pragati Maidan (play ground) of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited-Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (RINL-VSP) here on Monday.

The Steel Plant police identified the deceased as Manthena Venkata Surya Naga Vara Prasad Raju of Nakshatra Castle, Phase-7 of Kurmannapalem, and registered a case of unnatural death based on a complaint lodged by Manthena Rahul Varma, the man’s son.

According to the complainant, Prasad Raju went out around 5.30 p.m. on Sunday but failed to return. Around 10.30 a.m. the next day, Indukuri Satyanarayana Raju, a relative, made a call to Prasad Raju’s phone, but an unidentified person attended the call and said Prasad Raju was lying unconscious at Pragati Maidan.

Satyanarayana Raju subsequently alerted Rahul. On reaching the spot, the two of them found Prasad Raju lying on the ground and called the police, who shifted Prasad Raju to KGH, where he was declared brought dead.

The police said they found a bottle, which apparently contained some chemical, and a water bottle beside Prasad Raju. The body was sent for post-mortem examination; further investigation is on.

When contacted, Steel Plant police Circle Inspector A. Kesava Rao said the deceased was believed to have held a key post at a pharma company.
