In a major boost to the farming sector, Andhra Pradesh has received a record allocation of fertilisers this year, with the Centre supplying an additional 53,000 metric tonnes (MT) of urea.
Officials have confirmed that the fresh stocks have reached the Kakinada, Gangavaram, and Krishnapatnam ports, ensuring timely availability for the farmers.
According to a press release from the Agriculture Department, fertiliser sales, including that of urea, DAP, and complex fertilisers, have significantly increased compared to the previous year.
The State government’s continuous updates to the Centre on the demand and field conditions have helped secure enhanced allocations. Coordination with the Markfed is being ensured to distribute the supplies to the farmers without delay, the release adds.
As per the release, the Kakinada port has received 17,154 MT, Krishnapatnam port 9,200 MT, and Gangavaram port 26,547 MT of urea.
In the last 10 days, 22,000 MT of urea has reached the State, and another 30,000 MT is expected in the next 10 days. Domestic production and supply from various companies are also adding to the State’s stock, the release says.
So far, 5.65 lakh MT of urea has been supplied for the ongoing kharif season. The government has made preparations to secure 9 lakh MT of urea for the rabi season, officials say.
The Agriculture Department has reported a sharp rise in fertiliser distribution through Markfed compared to the previous year.
While 1.53 lakh MT had been supplied in the previous kharif season, this year’s supply reached 2.72 lakh MT, a growth of 78%.
Urea distribution alone has risen from 1.11 lakh MT the previous year to 2.02 lakh MT this year, an increase of 91,000 MT. Similarly, DAP has nearly doubled, rising from 23,700 MT the previous year to 51,700 MT this year, reflecting an 85% increase. Complex fertilisers have also recorded substantial growth, with overall supply rising by 1.2 lakh MT compared to the previous year.
Officials have emphasised that with such record allocations, the farmers in Andhra Pradesh will face no fertiliser shortage during the current kharif and upcoming rabi seasons.
