The officials of the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) on Tuesday (September 2, 2025) said that six new species arrived in the zoo as part of an animal exchange programme between the IGZP and Kanpur Zoological Park.
The zoo received swamp deer, striped hyena (for bloodline exchange), common sand boa, red-crowned roof turtle, hog deer, kalij pheasant, ruddy shelduck and red sand boa from Kanpur Zoological Park.
In exchange, the IGZP provided Asiatic wild dog, striped hyena (for bloodline exchange), Indian wolf, Lutino parakeet, star tortoise, green iguana and barking deer to Kanpur Zoological Park.
IGZP Curator G Mangamma said that the new animals brought from Kanpur Zoological Park would be kept in quarantine, as per the standard protocol, before being released to their respective enclousures.
