Supreme Court Judge Justice Surya Kant on Friday (September 05, 2025) called upon graduating students of the Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University (DSNLU) to work with discipline, hard work, and determination to reach their goals in life. Law school is a training ground for real world experiences, he said.

Justice Surya Kant participated as chief guest at the Combined Convocation of the 8th to 12th batch of DSNLU and delivered the Convocation Address. He advised the students to follow the work they truly enjoy while also sustaining relationships and said that they are different paths to choose from including teaching, practising, judicial officers or becoming a Judge.

He said: “The journey of self-discovery is lifelong. When I was an advocate in a district court, becoming a Judge of the Supreme Court was a fantasy. I had applied for judicial services examinations, and qualified. Law offers infinite possibilities.”

There could be stumbling blocks on your path to attain your goals, but remain true to your evolving self. Drawing an analogy between life and a Grand Prix, Justice Surya Kant said and added, “Your (law students, professionals) role is not to finish faster but to focus on the quality of your race. The road ahead brings new challenges, a lot of patience and energy is needed to stay ahead in the race.”

Referring to the large number of girls, who took their degrees, doctorates and medals at the convocation, he appreciated the change and commended them.

Supreme Court Judge Justice J.K. Maheswari spoke on the importance of discipline, hard work and determination for students to attain their goals. He recalled the words of Swami Vivekananda: “Arise, awake and stop not till the goal is reached”.

Supreme Court Judge Justice P.S. Narasimha said that there were tremendous avenues for growth for law students. “You have a great role to play in building our great country.”

Chief Justice of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh and Chancellor of DSNLU Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur presided over the function and administered the oath to the students.

DSNLU Vice Chancellor D. Surya Prakasa Rao in his welcome address traced the genesis and growth of the university. Registrar in-charge Viswachandra Nath Madasu also spoke.
