Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, on September 4, inaugurated Phase-II of the K. C. Valley project for filling 30 tanks and lakes in Kolar taluk by supplying treated sewage water from the Lakshmisagar Pump House in Kolar district.

The second phase of the K.C. Valley project would be completed by December 2025, which would ensure the filling of 272 lakes. The project will be implemented at a cost of ₹446 crore.

The KC Valley project gets its name from the Koramangala-Challaghatta valley drainage system in Bengaluru. The water originates in sewage treatment plants in Bengaluru.

Speaking after inauguration of the project at his residence in Bengaluru, the Chief Minister said that the project was undertaken during his first term as the CM for improving groundwater-level in the drought-prone districts neighbouring Bengaluru.

The project would enable farmers to bring more area under cultivation and improve their living standards. He said that treated water is being pumped into more than 250 lakes daily.

In the first phase, lakes in Kolar and Chikkaballapur districts were filled by supplying treated sewage water. However, some vested interests have launched a propaganda that the treated water is not suitable for crops and consumption by domestic animals, which is not correct, the Chief Minister said.

There are no major rivers in Kolar and Chikkaballapur districts. The project would benefit farmers, he said.
