How Thiruvengadam Street is subjected to pipeline-laying work follows a pattern, one marked by incredible disarray. Even with patchwork being carried out following completion of pipeline-laying, the site would be uneven and scarred — recall the look worn not long ago by a section of Thiruvengadam Street close to where it forms a junction with Venkatakrishna Road.

Or it could resemble a ploughed field with the soil turned over — head to the section of Thiruvengadam Street right outside Ragamalika Apartments now, and such a picture would greet you. Half of the road has been rendered unmotorable, and during rush hour, the traffic is a deluge seeking to escape through a narrow nozzle. Habitues of this section note this patch is in this state for at least a couple of weeks. These images were taken on September 5, 2025.

Kalyani Muralidharan, a resident of Ragamalaika Apartments underlines the sorry state of another section of Thiruvengadam Street, close to School View Road, where again the road has been dug up for civic infrastructure work.

She notes that it is not less than 15 days since this part of the street was opened up.

For her, the situation closer home (outside Ragamalika Apartements) is even more deplorable. For many days after the road was cut open, residents struggled to drive into gated community, and they took recourse to using the rear-side gate.

Kalyani adds: “Now, the road right in front of the main gate being closed, residents manage to drive in. Still, on this section, one vertical half of the road is unusable, causing traffic logjams during rush hour.”
