U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday (September 5, 2025) said India and Russia appear to have been “lost” to China, following the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting in Tianjin, China.

“Looks like we’ve lost India and Russia to deepest, darkest, China. May they have a long and prosperous future together!” Mr. Trump wrote in social media platform TruthSocial, along with an old photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Chinese President Xi Jinping seen together

On India, Russia and China ties, Mr. Trump said “May they have long and prosperous future together.”

Recently, Mr. Trump’s top trade adviser, Peter Navarro, called the bonhomie between the three leader as “troublesome” and added Mr. Modi needs to be with Washington, Europe and Ukraine, not with Russia.
