A 20-year-old student died and four others sustained injuries when their speeding car rammed a police vehicle at Langer Houz early on Sunday morning. Police said that all five occupants of the car had been drinking before the crash.

Kashvi Vijay Wargi, a B Sc student from Film Nagar, was seated behind the driver and succumbed while undergoing treatment. Her brother Tanishq, 18, and three others, Akshat Singh, Riya Vijay Wargi, and Likita Shinde, all aged 20, were also in the car.

Inspector B. Venkata Ramulu said that Akshat Singh’s blood alcohol content (BAC) measured 41. “The group had gathered at the residence of their friend Harsh at Attapur on Saturday evening. After partying through the night, they set out around 4 a.m. in a Creta EV (registration TG 08 G 0013). At 4.20 a.m., while taking a turn near Ramalayam close to Bapu Ghat, the car, driven at high speed, ignored traffic police signals and rammed into a police van stationed to clear congestion from a Ganesh procession,” police said.

Three policemen, Detective Inspector Satyanarayana, driver Aleemuddin, and constable Javed, also sustained injuries in the crash. Police registered a case and a probe is on.
