Udhayanidhi honours 396 teachers in T.N. with Dr. Radhakrishnan Award

On the occassion of Teachers’ Day, the Tamil Nadu government honoured 396 best teachers across the state with the Dr. Radhakrishnan Award at the Anna Centenary library on Friday.

Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin distributed the awards and spoke about how teachers should impart the values of social justice to students. “Education has reached even the remotevillages because of our teachers. From engineers and doctors to politicians like me, we owe our success to our teachers. Students should also learn rational thinking which teachers must also instil in them,” Mr. Udhayanidhi said.

On a lighter note, he added, “My request to maths and science teachers is not to borrow the PT periods. Let the children play during PT classes because only with good physical health, they will be able to imbibe what is taught to them.”

School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi said Tamil Nadu consistently achieves among the highest pass percentages in the country because of the teachers. “This award is not limited to individuals receiving them, but is a ladder towards building a better society,” said Mr. Poyyamozhi.

Director of School Education department S. Kannappan and Principal Secretary, School Education, B. Chandra Mohan also spoke on the occasion. Ministers Ma. Subramanian and P.K. Sekarbabu, Chennai Mayor R. Priya, and senior officials from the School Education department participated.
