Tenders have been floated by the Highways department for several works under the Comprehensive Road Infrastructure Development Programme (CRIDP) 2025-26. The proposed works include widening of road stretches, construction of stormwater drains in unconnected reaches, and building of culverts. A total of 132 works are planned at a combined cost of ₹561.50 crore, covering 230.68 km of roads across Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu districts.
In Tiruvallur district, 76.66 km of roads will be widened; in Kancheepuram, 22.1 km; in Chengalpattu, 31.2 km; and in Chennai city, about 9 km of roads will be widened to ensure smoother traffic flow.
The Naidu Kuppam-Edumadurai Road in Gummidipoondi taluk, Tiruvallur district, will be widened from a single lane to an intermediate lane at a cost of ₹1.68 crore, considering the increase in traffic in the area.
Seven works are planned across these districts to ensure free flow of water during rains. These include culverts and bridges, to be constructed at a cost of ₹90.30 crore.
As part of permanent flood restoration works, the remaining portion of a macro drain along the Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam Road (1.6 km) and the OMR-ECR (800 metres) will be taken up at a cost of ₹26.20 crore, according to official sources in the department.
Also in Tiruvallur district, riding quality improvements will be carried out on approximately 2 km of the Maddur-Alamelumangapuram Road and 1.2 km of the N.N. Kandigai-Nalattur Road, along with junction improvement at the Sadras-Tiruttani Road. These works will be taken up at a total cost of ₹1.35 crore. Additionally, about 1 km of the Tiruvottiyur-Ponneri-Panchetty Road will be strengthened.
