Condemning the USA for imposing 50% tariff on seafood products and India’s inaction in addressing the issue, members of Sea Workers’ Union at Agni Theertham here on Tuesday staged a protest.  

Senthil, district secretary, condemning the inaction said, America’s tariff imposition on the seafood products, is expected to impact exports valued approximately at Rs.24,000 crore annually.  

“This has also resulted in 500 tonnes of seafood from Tamil Nadu, which was in transit to the USA by ship, being forced to return,” he added.  

He also demanded the Union government to immediately come up with a solution to address the issue which is directly affecting the livelihood of lakhs of people.
