Mavelikara MP demands swift pumping operations in Kuttanad villages

Kodikunnil Suresh, MP, has written to District Collector Alex Varghese, demanding immediate action to drain floodwaters from inundated places in Kuttanad, including Kainakary, Champakulam, and Veliyanad.

Mr. Suresh on Sunday said that residents were facing hardships, including flooded homes, restricted mobility, worsening sanitation, and increasing health risks.

He urged the district administration to deploy mobile and stationary pumps in the affected regions to pump out floodwaters and to mobilise disaster response and public health teams without delay.

The Mavelikara MP expressed concern over reported delays in launching pumping operations due to administrative and financial constraints. “The people of Kuttanad should not be left to suffer due to procedural bottlenecks. The district administration should act swiftly and ensure that floodwaters are drained immediately,” Mr. Suresh said.
