Five arrested for possession of ganja, narcotics in Coimbatore

: Five persons were arrested by police patrol teams for selling ganja and other narcotic substances in Coimbatore in different operations.

Gokul (22) from New Siddhaputhur, Venkatesh Kumar (24) and Prasad (23) from Puliyakulam were arrested at Thottipalayam and were found to possess 1.2 kg ganja meant for sale.

In another operation, PEW (Prohibition Enforcement Wing) personnel intercepted Rupesh (19) of MGR Nagar, Kurichi, and Muraleeswaran (27) of Kavundampalayam, and seized 70 grams of methamphetamine and two mobile phones.

All the five persons were remanded in judicial custody.

The police are on the lookout for intruders who stole foreign currencies and cash from two houses at Saibaba Colony in Coimbatore. A complaint lodged by Ijaz Ahmed (32) of K.K. Pudur said the theft of the currencies of Singapore ad Saudi Arabia, and ₹33,000, was noticed in the morning. The intruders had also gained entry into the house of the complainant’s father-in-law in the neighbourhood and had stolen ₹8,000.
