Corruption charges levelled against Ramaiyanpatti panchayat president

Ramaiyanpatti village panchayat vice-president J. Selvakumar on Monday submitted a petition to Collector Anand Mohan containing corruption charges against the local body’s president and has sought a comprehensive investigation into them.

In the petition, Mr. Selvakumar said the panchayat president, with the help of a few ward members, had swindled a huge amount of money earmarked under the Anna Marumalarchi Scheme for the village panchayat for executing development works. Although complaints had been submitted with senior officials with evidence for investigation, they had been ignored.

Hence, the Collector should order investigation into the misappropriation of funds allocated for Ramaiyanpatti village panchayat for development works, Mr. Selvakumar further said.

A group of villagers from Kali Kumarapuram under Navaladi village panchayat near Thisaiyanvilai submitted a petition seeking a road connecting their hamlet with the nearest main road.

The petitioners, led by N. Durai Pazham, said a common path that was being used by 15 families of Kali Kumarapuram to reach the nearest main road for the past 70 years had been closed by the owner of the land. Hence, the district administration should identify land to create a new path to connect the hamlet with the nearest main road.

Seeking e-patta for the free housing plots given by the government at Kokkattikulam near Melapalayam, a group of residents of the area submitted a petition to the Collector.

A group of residents from V.O.C. Nagar of Ward 37 of Tirunelveli Corporation submitted a petition seeking construction of an overhead tank in their area to streamline drinking water supply. “Since we are getting drinking water supply once in 15 days, the Collector should instruct the Corporation to construct an overhead tank in our area,” said M. Raman, a petitioner.

The farmers of Manur taluk, who suffered black gram crop loss last year due to monsoon failure, submitted a petition seeking compensation. They said they were yet to get the compensation even after inspection by officials from the Departments of Agriculture, Revenue and Statistics and submission of petitions.
