District Collector K. Vetri Selvi on Wednesday (February 4) directed officials to ensure speedy justice to victims in cases registered under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act by expediting investigation and filing charge sheets in time.
She was reviewing the status of such cases at a meeting of the District SC/ST Vigilance and Monitoring Committee held at the Collectorate, along with Eluru MLA Badeti Radhakrishnaiah (Chanti) and committee members. During the review, it was said 59 cases were registered in the district between January 1 and January 31, of which 37 cases are under investigation.
The Collector said that a compensation of ₹63.25 lakh was paid to 56 victims at the FIR stage, while ₹68.50 lakh was disbursed to 31 victims at the charge-sheet stage. She instructed the officials to collect complete evidence during investigations and ensure timely filing of charge sheets. She also stressed the need to conduct district-level SC/ST vigilance committee meetings as per schedule.
Mr. Badeti Radhakrishnaiah said the government prioritised the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and urged officials to ensure quick disposal of such cases and proper compensation to victims. Senior officials from police, social welfare, revenue and other departments attended the meeting.
