Following orders of the 3rd JMFC Court, Mangaluru, the Mangaluru City Police’s Kavoor police station has registered a complaint by a woman against four persons for filing objection under Form 7 and seeking deletion of 68 names from the electoral roll.
In the complaint filed with the police on October 6, 27-year-old Anisha said she has was a resident of Moodushedde, under Moodbidri Assembly Constituency, and that she had been residing in her parents house in Moodushedde since four years when her husband shifted to Saudi Arabia for work. She had voted in Moodbidri Assembly Assembly Constituency in the 2023 Assembly election. Her name and that of her sister Ayesa Banu’s name were in the draft electoral roll in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision.
Ms. Anisha said Form 7 has been filed with the Electoral Registration Officer objecting to the presence her name, of Ayesha Banu and 66 other residents in the draft roll under Moodbidri Assembly Constituency. One Kishan, a voter from 216 booth, has filed Form 7 objecting to the presence of 45 genuine names, while Ritesh, a voter from 223 booth, has filed objection to nine names. One Yuvaraj, a voter, has filed objection against 10 names and B.Shashikala, another voter, has filed it against four names. Accusing the four of filing a false Form 7, she asked police to take necessary action under Section 217 (Giving false information to public servant) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which is a non-coginzable offence.
Accordingly, the Kavoor police registered a Non-Cognisable Report and asked Ms. Anisha to approach court to get its permission for further investigation of the case. The same day she approached the 3rd JMFC Court, Mangaluru, which directed police to investigate the case and submit a report. Following which the Kavoor police filed a case against Kishan, Ritesh, Yuvaraj and B. Shashikala.
Meanwhile the office of Dakshina Kannada District Electoral Officer (DEO) maintained that they have received only 19 Form7/Form 8 till September 23 and they have been looked into. Following completion of inquiry so far, a total of 14.96 lakh voters from eight Assembly constituencies have been parked for final publication of electoral roll (on October 26) while 382 voters have been found ineligible for inclusion in the roll. Scrutiny was pending related to 594 voters, a release from the DEO said.
Dakshina Kannada District Congress president R. Padmaraj, addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, said the 19 Form 7/Form 8 examined by the DEO were genuine. The 382 parked for deletion were also genuine ones. “We are not against genuine deletions. We are against attempt made by the BJP to delete genuine voters,” he said.
