Five senior officials from the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), including its president Jagan Mohan Rao, were taken into custody by the Telangana Crime Investigation Department (CID) on Wednesday, in connection with alleged irregularities during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
The others detained for questioning have been identified as HCA treasurer C. Srinivas Rao, CEO Sunil Kante, general secretary Rajender Yadav and his wife G. Kavita.
Their arrests follow a report submitted by the Vigilance and Enforcement Wing to the State government, detailing suspected lapses in governance and ticket allocation by the association during the IPL.
The preliminary findings reportedly support serious allegations made by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) franchise against HCA officials, including claims of intimidation, coercion, and blackmail over complimentary tickets and access to corporate boxes.
According to SRH, Jagan Mohan Rao allegedly locked a corporate box just hours before the team’s match against Lucknow Super Giants on March 27 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, demanding 20 additional complimentary tickets. The franchise claimed that this move violated the tri-party agreement between SRH, HCA and the Board of Control for Cricket in India, which permits the association to distribute 3,900 complimentary tickets, 10% of the stadium’s capacity.
