The ‘Kattige Muhurta’, the third preparatory ritual ahead of the paryaya of Shiroor Mutt at the Krishna Mutt in Udupi in 2026, will be held at 9.15 a.m. on Sunday (July 13, 2025)..

As part of the ritual, 25 truck loads of firewood will be collected and stacked in the shape of chariot on the north-eastern side of Madhwa Sarovara. This ritual is symbolic of readiness for the upcoming paryaya.

Talking to reporters in Udupi on Friday, Diwan of Shiroor Mutt, one of the Ashta Mutts of Udupi, Uday Kumar Saralatthaya, said Baale Muhurtha and Akki Muhurtha, the first two stages of Paryaya preparations, were already completed. Stacking of firewood in the form of chariot will be over by December. The stacked wood will be to prepare food for devotees visiting the Krishna Mutt during the two year paryaya of Shiroor Mutt.

Mr. Saralatthaya said the ritual of stacking firewood for paryaya, has for ages, commenced during the ‘Ashada’ month. Collecting wood during this month helps trees to regenerate, he said.

Devotees participating in Kattiga Muhurta ritual can carry firewood logs on their heads during the procession from Laxmi Thota, Kalsanka to Krishna Mutt premises, Mr. Saralatthaya said.

The Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna said that Udupi City Municipal Council has earmarked Rs 50 lakh for illuminating the city for the 10-day paryaya event in January, 2026.’
