PMK founder S. Ramadoss on Friday (July 11, 2025) alleged that a tapping device was planted by unidentified persons at his Thailapuram residence near Tindivanam in Villupuram district.

Speaking to reporters at Vriddhachalam in the district, Dr. Ramadoss said the device was planted beneath his chair at his residence, and an investigation into who had planted it was under way.

He said he had been fighting for the rights of people for the last 46 years, and if the people voted for the PMK, there would be no need to raise the demand of 10.5 % internal reservation for Vanniyars. Stating that the vote of the people was the most powerful weapon, Dr. Ramadoss appealed to the people to exercise their franchise with diligence to show the power at the hustings.

‘Allegations absurd’

Sources close to PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss, who is currently in a tussle with his father over the leadership of the party, rubbished the bugging allegations made by Dr. Ramadoss. A senior PMK leader, who has pledged support to Dr. Anbumani, said these allegations were ‘absurd’.

“If we had listening devices, we wouldn’t have to break our heads to learn what Dr. Ramadoss and his supporters are up to and who they are meeting in Thailapuram. What is clear is he is simply not in a position to run the party and cannot actively be involved in politics from now on. Today is Azhagumuthu Kone’s birth anniversary….who garlanded his statue on behalf of the PMK?” he said.

Regarding approaching the Election Commission (ECI), should the senior Ramadoss make his case that he is party president, the senior PMK leader said: “As of now, there is no need for us to approach the ECI, but if we are served a notice, we will present our case.” He added, “The general body has officially selected Dr. Anbumani as its president.”

‘Massive victory’

Earlier in the day, Dr. Ramadoss asserted that the PMK, regardless of the alliance it joined in the upcoming election, would secure a massive victory.

He was speaking to journalists after inspecting the venue for a party women’s conference scheduled to be held on August 10 in Poompuhar near Sirkazhi.

“Whichever alliance the PMK joins, that alliance will secure a massive victory. Likewise, the PMK too will register an unprecedented win. Such will be the strength of our alliance,” he added.
