In Dindigul, the teachers staged a protest on AMC road in front of Kamaraj Bus Stand and over 400 teachers were detained by the police. In Theni, the teachers staged a protest in front of Theni Collectorate and over 200 teachers were detained by the police.
The charter of demands included the implementation of the old pension scheme, salary hike, periodical promotion to teachers and to fill the vacancies in teachers post. The teachers also demanded salaries on a par with that of the Central government teachers.
The teachers said the government had failed to redress their grievances. Hence, they staged the protests to draw the attention of the authorities.
