Relatives of a 10-year-old girl who was sexually assaulted by an unidentified person on July 12, laid siege to the Arambakkam police station near Gummidipoondi on Friday, demanding quick action to nab the culprit.

Police sources said the girl was walking back home from school alone, when the suspect followed her and abducted her. He had taken her to a mango groove, where he sexually assaulted her.

The Arambakkam police registered a case under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Probe under way

With six days having passed since the incident, the suspect is yet to be nabbed. A senior police officer said: “Special teams were formed and sent to Andhra Pradesh, where the suspect could be hiding. After analysing CCTV camera footage, the teams are working hard to catch the criminal soon.”
