Former Executive Officer (EO) of Tirupattur town panchayat was arrested by the police on Saturday for allegedly attacking a DMK functionary with a heavy object.
Police said about three months ago Tirupattur town panchayat chairperson Gokilarani, had accused Danushkodi, former Tirupattur EO, of not returning borrowed money.
Gokilarani’s husband Narayanan had filed a case against the EO at Tirupattur police station. In the meanwhile, Danushkodi was transferred to Bhuvanagiri town panchayat in Cuddalore district.
In this situation, the EO and complainant Narayanan were summoned by the police for investigation.
As the police were enquiring about the complaint with both parties, an argument erupted between them. Police said as the argument flared up, Danushkodi, lifted a paper weight from the table and threw it at Shanmugam, DMK town deputy secretary, who accompanied the complainant.
Shanmugan who suffered injury on his head was rushed to the Sivaganga Government Hospital for treatment.
Following this, police booked a case against Danushkodi and arrested him.
