Gold jewellery weighing 66 sovereigns along with cash was stolen from a house in Chinnamannur in Theni district on Wednesday.
Police said a teacher couple Jagatheesan and Punitha were residing in a rented house in Chinnamanur. The couple were residing on the ground floor of the house and had left for work in the morning.
The owner of the house, Raja, who was residing on the first floor noticed that the lock of the house on the ground floor had been broken. On entering the house he noticed that the bureaus had been opened and things were lying scattered on the floor. The police were informed and the couple rushed back home. The police have registered a case and are investigating.
